Moscow’s state social and humanitarian institute hosted the Championship of Russia for Paralympics fencing. It consists of individual and team tournaments for athletes in wheelchairs suffering from disorders in locomotor system. Fencers competed in three kinds of weapons: spade, rapier and saber.

Moscow’s state social and humanitarian institute hosted the Championship of Russia for Paralympics fencing. It consists of individual and team tournaments for athletes in wheelchairs suffering from disorders in locomotor system. Fencers competed in three kinds of weapons: spade, rapier and saber. Athletes from Bashkorstan, Komi Republic, Kursk, Moscow and Moscow Region, Novgorod, Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg, Samara and Cherepovets took part in the competitions. Participants include winners and prize bearers of Russian and international tournaments, members of the national team of Russia, five Russian athletes who took part in the 13th Beijing Paralympics. “Russian Paralympics fencing opens a new page after Beijing,” says the president of Paralympics Fencing Federation of Russia, Elena Belkina. “The present championship of Russia opens a four-year cycle of preparations for Paralympics Games in London, where we plan to take part in both individual and team competitions. The results of the tournament will be used to form the core of the national team of Russia for 2009 Championship of Europe and the World Cup.”
